Where they began

They all started at home. I had crocheted a large doll for my daughter’s third birthday and by the time her brother was old enough he loved dragging it around (and taking it from her). I decided I would make him one for his second birthday but this one needed to be an animal. With our love of dogs it didn’t take long to decide on the animal and thus, the first Big Dog was created (pictured right).

Versions 1, 2, & 3

We had two more boys (surprise twins!) so I made them their own dogs. Then their sister (now 5) wanted one as well so another was added to the pack and she got to help pick out the colors. After that I decided I wanted to redesign the look of the head so version #2 was made. More recently I changed the design to make version #3, changing the ears, arms, and legs. I’m very happy with the way they’ve all turned out but version #3 is probably my favorite (I can still make the first two versions upon request).

Specs and basic info

All three versions of the Big Dogs are approximately 18″ long with ragdoll style limbs. They are made with a soft, polyester blanket yarn making them hypoallergenic. Each is specially made and no two are exactly alike. They are each handmade, heirloom quality, customizable, and better yet they are machine washable and dryable.

Accidental bonus

As a side note we recently found that these dolls fit in premie and newborn baby clothes! Thanks to my daughter for that discovery.

Washing and Care Instructions

All of the crocheted items listed on this site can be machine washed on a delicate cycle with cold water. I suggest using a delicates mesh bag or pillowcase to help keep the eyes from getting scratched inside the machine. They can also be dried in a dryer in the same bag or pillowcase. We’ve dried our crocheted items on low and medium heat with no problems. We have not seen any shrinkage or issues but that is just our personal experience, please take needed precautions with your own machines. Do not use fabric softener with these items as it can leave a residue on them.
