I am excited to be starting fire cider soon. I haven’t made any in a couple years and have really missed having it on hand. It’s great to take daily to help with inflammation and gut health or when you feel a cold coming on.
What is fire cider? It’s apple cider vinegar infused with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, healthy, and great-for-you ingredients. I use a standard ingredient base such as: ginger, garlic, jalapeños, other hot peppers (of your choice), turmeric, peppercorns, ceylon cinnamon, and sometimes beets.
Additional and common ingredients also include onion, orange or lemon, rosemary, thyme, raw honey, and horseradish. I generally like adding horseradish but it can be hard to find in my area.
To make fire cider you simply take your ingredients, chop them up, place them in a jar, and cover them in apple cider vinegar (ACV). Make sure all of the ingredients are submerged to avoid any mold.
Use a plastic lid or place parchment paper under the lid if using a metal top (vinegar can eat away at the metal lids).
Store in a cool dark place, like a cabinet, and shake once a day or when you remember to.
I have strained my fire cider as early as 4-6 weeks but others let theirs infuse for longer (your choice). You then store it in a jar (or the same jar) and feel free to use the strained ingredients elsewhere. I’ve dehydrated and ground mine to use them as a spice before.
Take 1 TBSP daily or 1 TBSP every 3-4 hours at the first signs of a cold.

The fire cider pictured on the left of the picture above was made with a homemade pineapple vinegar and it was delicious!
